We Believe

The Scriptures(lit. the writing) are not ordinary writings but are in fact God breathed. That is, Scripture is God speaking his truth to us in words.

The Godhead (Trinity) brings together three equally essential biblical truths. First, there is only one true God. Second, the Father, Son, and Spirit are equally declared though out the Bible to be God. Third, though one God, the Father, Son, and Spirit are distinct persons.

As Father, God loves the world. God created mankind in his image and relates to man in a unique way unlike the  rest of creation. God talks with man. As the eternal son of God, Jesus became man without ceasing to be God by the virgin birth, to reveal God as Father and redeem sinful man by his death on the cross. He is raised from the dead, ascended  into heaven, and is now exalted at the right hand of the Father. As Spirit, his moving is seen in the creation of the world, the writing of scripture, convicting men of sin, drawing men to salvation, indwelling believers and leading them to be like Jesus.

Total Depravity of Man.We believe that man, originally created in the image of God, fell from his innocence by eating the forbidden fruit. This disobedience resulted in the death of all spiritual life for Adam and Eve and their descendants. All men are born spiritually dead which spawns a life of trespasses and sins. Sinful man is incapable of pleasing God.

Salvation occurs the instant a person hears the good news of salvation (John 3:16) and believes Jesus paid the penalty for our sins by his death on the cross. The benefits of Jesus’ death are only applied to a person’s sin debt if he calls on the name of the Lord.

Eternal Security of the believer. When a person has genuinely believed in and called upon Jesus Christ as Savior he is forever secured by God’s keeping power.

The Church is comprised of all who receive Jesus as Savior, and are united by the Holy Spirit to the risen Savior. Its mission is to share the gospel of salvation through words and example.

Future Events. The Bible describes future events such as the world’s abandonment of God and pursuit of sin, the visible return of Jesus Christ from heaven to earth with power and great glory judging the word of sin and sinner, to establish a 1000 year world wide reign where sin, sickness and death are banished. Prior to Jesus Christ’s return from heaven, all believers are caught up to be with Him. Upon Jesus’ return to earth Israel enjoys an exalted and honored status among the nations.

Satan is a person, the author of sin and cause of the fall of man into sin, the open and declared enemy of God and man, who will be eternally punished in the lake of fire.

The church constitution contains a doctrinal section which offers expanded comments on the subjects mentioned above. If you want to know more about what Hartford Federated Church believes the Bible teaches feel free to ask for a copy of the church constitution, or, speak with the Pastor.
